Why I wrote Father’s Day.. There has been a disconnect between myself and those of you that have listened to my newest release titled Father’s Day. A lot of you probably felt I was holding back and that there was a certain vagueness surrounding this song in particular but still you assumed and understood that a song surrounding this subject might be sensitive and you respected that and didn’t cross any potential boundaries with invasive questions. I do appreciate mindfulness but I wanted to take the time to give you an explaination. I released the song a week after actual Father’s Day that happened to occur on Sunday because I was forced to reminisce on my relationship with my father after seeing all the Happy Father’s day posts on social media. Sunday was a day my father would come and visit us weekly or on weeks he was able to. My mother and father split before I came into this world. I won’t speak on whatever happened between them but I will say he was in the wrong and I hate him for it. He did however try to create and maintain a relationship between us but it was never and could never be solid based off the visiting situation. All of a sudden he stopped showing up. I do not know why. I do not know what happened. But I do know I never saw any effort to find us again and reconnect. I hate him for that too. It’s a shitty thing to put your kids through. I never had a father to teach me many things neither did my brother but due to my mother’s strength we made it through and learned all we could through her and other figures. That’s where that line, “I guess father’s day is owed to all my mother’s strength” came from. She kept us alive by herself not in the best circumstances and after going through a shitty situation. This song is kind of a gentle fuck you to him and a promise to my mother that at all costs I am working to make our lives better. If you’d like to hear the song, the link is at the bottom. I know this is super long, thank you if you made it all the way through this! Thank you for listening!

This is simply not fair. Everyone willing deserves a right to further their education. They tell us to stay in school yet make it nearly impossible then wonder why people get stuck in retail jobs forever or no job? The system is failing terribly.
I don’t know how familiar non Ontarians are with our student loan service (OSAP) but it can be great for some and not so great for others. In this case of course it is the latter. This is Priscilla’s story. For as long as she can remember she has known she wanted to further her education in makeup art and design, making her god given talent a life long career. Being on her own with barely any income she of course applied for OSAP to help with tuition and student kit cost… unfortunately OSAP is only willing to give her half of the over $24,000 she needs before the official start date of school. The school keeps telling her to get a student line of credit to make up for what she doesn’t have.. great suggestion except she has tried multiple times and keeps getting rejected. Unfortunately life isn’t always perfect. Not everyone has 100% financially stable people or family in their lives to make things happen for them. This is the case here. Earlier on we were told people that come from a household making less than $50,000 would be eligible for fully covered tuition. Again not the case.. for myself my tuition was not fully covered, I still have loans to pay back and me myself wasn’t making not even $15,000 a year working full time. Prisiclla makes even less and has had so many things come up that hindered her from saving for school. Before I keep talking I just encourage you all to please click the link and read her story. If you cannot donate please at least share. And don’t think any donation amount is too little! Every bit is appreciated!
